Licenses may be purchased for larger game once the apprentice hunter reaches 16 years of age.

A youth can acquire a hunting licence with a combination hunt/trap permit and a consolidated hunt/trap license if they are a citizen of the state. If they aren't a resident, they can still purchase a combined license. A nonresident youth can purchase a license from a county clerk or a city agent. The state statutes establishing the requirements for the license are SS 29.1-303.3 and SS 29.1-304, respectively.
