This famous buffalo runner killed over four thousand bison during the 19th century and was known as Buffalo Bill. Ernest Hemingway stayed once in Cody at the Chamberlin Inn while he was in Wyoming. He traveled to the town along with Jack and Pauline, his son. Then, he decided to visit the L Bar T ranch in Cody. The current owners discovered a signed register under the inn's basement while they were there. Hemingway Suite was also named in his honor by the current owners.

St. George Littledale

Legend has it that St. George Littledale once hunted a tur in the Canadian Arctic. Littledale was disillusioned by the misty mountain covering the area that prevented him seeing the Tur. Littledale waited with his companions for Littledale each morning to return to the camp. However, they couldn't locate the tur because of the mist. The tur was eventually located on a high ledge in the mountains. Littledale, his guide, had been waiting to them since the early evening hours. Littledale woke up at two in morning and returned home by eight thirty.

St. George Littledale was a well-known hunter but he never killed any wolves. He was unable kill the animal and had no choice but to return to his camp. However, this did not stop him from writing about wolves. He had no idea that the ram would be so dangerous and how the hunters could survive in such conditions. Littledale's stories are included in this book. Littledale's Arctic trip inspired the book and his love for animals.

David Ferguson Hunter VC

Scottish soldier David Ferguson Hunter VC was awarded the Victoria Cross in recognition of his gallantry during World War I. David was born in Kingseat Dunfermline, Scotland. He joined the Territorial Army in 1910 and served with the 7th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He served in France with the Royal Engineers after transferring to them. He was wounded in 1916 and was transferred to the 1/5th Battalion City of Glasgow Highland Light Infantry. He was awarded the VC in 1918 for his actions during the war.

David returned home to Dunfermline after he was awarded VC. He attended a Buckingham Palace Garden Party, which was hosted by VC holder. There he was invited as a participant in a bust. The Imperial War Museum commissioned the bust, which represents all Scots who received the VC in the First World War. The museum has the bust which portrays David Hunter.
